Dublin – Pedestrian flow simulations

Working jointly with Bakkala Consulting Engineers we have recently completed two studies of pedestrian flows in the vicinity of a proposed high-rise building in Dublin. In accordance with Dublin City Development Plan 2022-2028 such study is required for proposed landmark / tall buildings to demonstrate that they will not cause unacceptable overcrowding in the surrounding areas.

Although the scope of our services at INBEPO normally focuses on fire safety engineering, this type of consultancy work nicely complements our core interests.

The study was based on computer simulation using Pathfinder – specialist software for evacuation and pedestrian movement modelling.

The study included a quantitative assessment of safety and comfort in the main entrance lobby and surrounding pedestrian realm, based on lift performance analysis, TFL guidance and the DCC masterplan.
