ITB / FRISSBE 2024 Summer School in Warsaw

In September 2024, the first summer school for young fire safety scientists and engineers organised by the Building Research Institute (ITB) and FRISSBE took place in Warsaw. The lecturers at the school were distinguished scientists from European universities and research centres, among others: Prof Grunde Jomaas (FRISSBE-ZAG, Slovenia)Dr Andrea Lucherini (FRISSBE-ZAG, Slovenia)Dr Martina Manes (University of Liverpool, UK)Prof Bart Merci (Ghent University, Belgium)Dr Michael Spearpoint (OFR Consultants, UK)Prof José L. Torero (University College London, UK)Dr Ruben Van Coile (Ghent University, Belgium)Dr Wojciech Węgrzyński (ITB, Poland)Dr Michael Woodrow (University College London, UK) The classes were attended by several dozen participants from all over the world, including an employee of our company, Piotr Zaranek. The classes included a series of lectures and excursions to the ITB laboratory in Pionki and the Baltic Fire Laboratory in Gdańsk. On 17-18 June 2024 in Zagórze Śląskie, a training course for fire protection experts was held, organised by the Training Centre of the Voivodeship Headquarters of the State Fire Service (KW PSP) in Wrocław. We took an active part in this training – a representative of our company, Janusz Paliszek, gave a lecture entitled ‘Application of engineering methods and analysis in the design of smoke extraction devices in road tunnels’. We also gave a practical demonstration of a smoke test in a tunnel for the training participants....
Hot smoke tests in a road tunnel

Between May and July 2024, we were commissioned by Voltar System Sp. z o.o. to perform hot smoke tests in the new TS-26 road tunnel located in Lower Silesia, along the S3 expressway between Bolków and Kamienna Góra. The tunnel consists of two tubes, each more than 2.3 km long. The tunnel is equipped with a number of safety systems, particularly fire safety systems. The investor was GDDKiA and the general contractor was PORR S.A. The tunnel was opened to traffic on the 31st of July 2024....
IFE Fire Safety Conference in Dublin

On 19 October 2023, we participated in a fire safety conference entitled ‘Working together to improve standards’. This conference was organised in Dublin by The Institution of Fire Engineers (Republic of Ireland Branch). The conference brought together a wide range of fire safety professionals from Ireland and the UK and provided an excellent opportunity to share experiences. The conference was attended by fire safety specialists and engineers, representatives of companies offering active and passive fire protection, fire service officers and representatives of the academia. A member of our team Piotr Smardz, delivered a paper on fire safety in high-rise and high rise buildings – ‘Fire Safety in the design, construction and use of high rise buildings – Central European Experience’....
Fire and Evacuation Modeling Technical Conference (FEMTC)

Recenty we had a chance to take part in several technical conferences and seminars. A particularly interesting one was the Fire and Evacuation Modelling Technical Conference (FEMTC) which took place on the 12-14th of September in Brno in the Czech Republic. The presentations included varied topics such as modeling big natural Gas Fires, evacuation of airports and sports stadia as well as structural fire assessment of an existing tunnel....
